Do YouTube Ads Count Toward Watch Time and Monetization?

Ad views can increase public view counts. For monetization, only valid public watch hours from long-form content count toward the 4,000-hour threshold—ad campaign watch time does not.

Creators often mix up two things: views and watch hours. Yes, when you run YouTube promotions through Google Ads, qualifying ad views can be counted as public views on your video.

But the watch time from those ad campaigns does not count toward the 4,000 valid public watch hours required for full YouTube Partner Program monetization.

What actually counts
