Music Not Showing Up: Distribution Not Enabled

Music missing from TikTok usually means distribution was not enabled, delivery is still pending, or metadata does not match search terms.

If your music is not showing up on TikTok, the most common cause is that TikTok distribution was not enabled with your distributor, or delivery is still in progress. TikTok delivery typically takes 1-3 weeks after submission. Check your distributor dashboard to confirm TikTok is selected and verify delivery status before troubleshooting further.

Is TikTok Distribution Enabled?

Most distributors require you to explicitly opt into TikTok delivery. It is not included by default with standard DSP distribution.

DistroKid: TikTok appears in the "Services" section during upload. If you have already released without selecting TikTok, visit the album page and click "Add to more stores" to add it retroactively.

CD Baby: TikTok delivery requires opting into Social Video Monetization. Check the Monetization section for each release and confirm a clip selection has been made for every track. Even if settings appear correct, click "Save" again to trigger delivery.

TuneCore: TikTok is available on paid plans. Verify your subscription tier includes social platforms and that TikTok is selected in distribution preferences.

Is Delivery Still In Progress?

TikTok delivery is slower than Spotify or Apple Music. Expect 1-3 weeks from submission before your track appears in the TikTok sound library. If it has been less than 3 weeks since you submitted, wait before troubleshooting.

Check your distributor dashboard for delivery status. Most show a specific status for each platform. "Pending" or "In Progress" means delivery has not completed.

Could There Be a Metadata Mismatch?

Your music may be on TikTok but not appearing in search results because of metadata differences.

Artist name variations: If your artist name on TikTok differs from your search term (punctuation, spacing, abbreviations), searches will fail. Search for the exact name shown in your distributor.

Track title issues: Special characters, non-English characters, and long titles cause search problems. Try searching for just the first few words of your track title.

Multiple versions: If you have released remixes, explicit/clean versions, or re-releases under similar titles, your track may appear under a different version than expected.

Are Regional Restrictions Blocking Your Music?

Some music is not available in all countries. If you are searching from a region where licensing is restricted, your track will not appear even if it exists in other markets.

Try searching on the web version of TikTok or asking someone in a different country to search. This helps identify whether the issue is regional or global.

Do Business Account Limitations Affect Visibility?

TikTok business accounts have restricted access to licensed music. If you are searching from a business account and your track does not appear, try switching to a personal account temporarily.

This affects playback permissions, not whether the track exists. Your music may still be in the sound library for personal account users.

What To Do If Delivery Failed

If your distributor shows TikTok as "delivered" but the track still does not appear after 3 weeks:

  1. Search TikTok using exact metadata from your distributor dashboard
  2. Try both the TikTok app and web interface
  3. Search from a personal account, not a business account
  4. Contact your distributor support with the specific track details

Most delivery issues resolve within 1-2 business days once reported. Distributors have direct relationships with TikTok's content team and can escalate missing tracks.

How Can You Prevent Future Issues?

When setting up future releases for TikTok:

  • Enable TikTok distribution at initial upload, not retroactively
  • Submit at least 2-3 weeks before you need the track available
  • Use consistent, simple artist names without special characters
  • Select custom clip start times rather than relying on TikTok's algorithm
  • Verify your "Add to Music App" linking after delivery completes
